Abstract: 

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Library software of Pars Azarakhsh, Simorgh, and Saman in terms of information retrieval features in the web environment. The present study is applied type. The statistical population consists of Pars Azarakhsh, Simorgh, and Saman Library software. To measure, review, identify and evaluate the dimensions of the research, the status of Library software in 5 indicators was reviewed and analyzed. The data of this research were collected by observing the software website and using the opinions of the software experts and were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. Findings showed that in the field of search capabilities in various fields, Pars Azarakhsh with 98.85% points, and Saman and Simorgh with 96.55% points obtained the highest and lowest scores. In the section of various search formulations, Simorgh and Pars Azarakhsh with 100% points and Saman software with 83.34% points obtained the highest and lowest scores. In other types of software searches, Pars Azarakhsh with 78.43% points, and Saman software with 76.97% points had the highest and lowest points. The results also showed that the studied software, in terms of retrieval and information retrieval features in the web environment, had good improvements over their previous versions and were able to meet more than 80% of the criteria studied in this study.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Nowadays, use of Library software is a basic need for libraries and information centers.User interface is a part of computerized systems which is interacting to the user and it is an important factor in information searching process. This study aimed to compare librarian’s satisfaction rate from Library software interface in Isfahan libraries in 2010.Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical study which was performed on Isfahan’s librarians (n=650), and the sample size (n=242) was determined according to the Morgan’s and Krejcie’s sample size table.Five Library software were compared together including: Pars-Azarakhsh, Payam, Nosa, Kavosh, and Namayeh. Sampling was conducted through stratified quota method. Data were collected using questionnaire for user interaction satisfaction (QUIS) in 5-point Likert scale.Results: In terms of general features (mean=4), information display (mean=3.79), terminology and system feedback (mean=3.07), help (mean=3.64) and system capabilities and properties (mean=3.76), Nosa software was the first ranking software and Pars-Azarakhsh and Kavosh were the second and third, respectively.Conclusion: According to the results of this study, Nosa was the best software and Pars Azarakhsh and Kavosh were ranked the second and third, respectively. Since librarians spend most of their working hours with several Library software, their job satisfaction from the software interface has a large impact on the success of software companies, thus supporting and training department of such companies must have regular meetings and forums to examine the factors influencing on librarians’ satisfaction from Library software and also apply librarians’ comments in their designs.

Abstract: 

Purpose: The purpose of the present research is to analyze the elements and features of Pars Azarakhsh Library softwares user interface and to determine of its users' general satisfaction.Methodology: The method used to carry out this applied research is survey. Data collection was done using a questionnaire. The sample size was determined via stratified random sampling. To analyze the collected data descriptive statistics, T-Test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and SPSS software version 16 were applied.Findings: The most satisfying feature of Pars Azarakhsh Library software was ‘learning’ and ‘software application’ with average 2.17.Conclusion: Shahid Chamran University students have been moderately satisfied with Pars Azarakhsh Library software. So, to improve the efficiency and utility of the software some attempts are necessary.

Abstract: 

Information literacy and its competencies in workplace play a key role in evaluating workforce. However, information literacy models and its definitions cannot be generalized to different contexts. Designing Library software by nature is a profession whose tasks are directly tied to information literacy and information technology competencies. In addition, human resource (software designer) is a crucial element of Library software designing process. The aim of the present study is to investigate factors affecting information literacy needed by Library software developers. The research population contains 15 experts in Library software designing team including ‘ an operator’ , ‘ a system analyst’ , ‘ a supporter’ and ‘ a graphic artist’ that have rich and extensive knowledge of the field. The sampling method is snowball sampling and respondentdriven sampling. In terms of methodology, the present study fall into the category of qualitative research. To collect the data, semi-structured interviews has been used. After transcribing the interviews, their written versions were subject to qualitative content analysis. First, capabilities of each job were explained. Common capabilities of team members were then identified and categorized. These common capabilities include team working capability, informational flexibility, information technology (IT) knowledge, and librarianship knowledge. The findings indicate the main components of information literacy to be: consideration on information need, information search and access, information retrieval, methods of information evaluation, information organization and information dissemination. Moreover, the sub-components were identified for each factor separately.

Abstract: 

Purpose: This research evaluates the level of acquaintance of members of Tabriz Central Library with its facilities and services for needs assessment of Library users training course.Methodology: It is an analytical descriptive research. For gathering the data, 6 open questions and 33 close questions had been asked in a form of a questionnaire. A sample of 361 active member of Tabriz Central Library answered the questionnaire.Findings: The first hypothesis is evaluation of hypotheses about the existence of significant differences between the levels of familiarity with the Library software on the members, with 95 percent confidence were confirmed. The second hypothesis that is about having significant difference between the users with high and low range referring to the Library and level of familiarity with the Library software with 95 percent confidence was confirmed. The third hypothesis that is about having significant difference between the users with high and low range of book check in the level of familiarity with the Library software with 95 percent confidence was confirmed. Conclusion: Results showed that half of the Library users are familiar with the Library software concepts and facilities. According to these results it is needed to train the users for appropriate use of the Library software.

Abstract: 

Aim: The purpose of this study was comparing Information Retrieval Capabilities in Web-based Library software of Payam, with Voyager and ALEPH. Methodology: A checklist designed and included six main traits for evaluation and comparing 73 scales. Data collected by experts' observing of the software's OPAC. Data analyzed by the descriptive statistics methods. Findings: Findings shows the preferences in search capabilities in species of fields the Aleph with 97% is the most and Payam with 93. 45% is the least, in search formula Aleph and Voyager with 100% has the most and Payam with 58. 33% is the least, in possibility of species of searches Voyager with 83. 9% is the most and Aleph with 78. 73% is the least, in display of results Aleph with 96. 36% is the most and Payam with 78. 18% is the least, in help all of software with 92. 85% are equal, and in web 2 capabilities Aleph with 80% is the most and Payam with 0% has the least preferences. Results: The results show that Aleph with 91. 30 percent is in first grade, Voyager with 87. 24 percent is in the second grade and Payam with 75. 50 percent is in the third grade. Payam has the least preferences of evaluation than the two other software.

Abstract: 

Objective: Identifying the status of Iranian digital Library software in terms of the use of various content management and user portlets. Methodology: This is an applied research done as a heuristic survey. The research was conducted to evaluate the capabilities of various portlets in the field of digital Library management in two general areas of content management (collection process management, content production management, classification management, documentation management, loading management, content indexing management, link management and news management) and user management (user management, staff management and user security management) are used in digital Library software. Statistical population of the study consists of five Digital Library softwares Pars Azarsa, Simorgh, Tebyan, and Parwan Farakavash produced by five major Library software companies in Iran (Pars Azarakhsh, Nosa, Tebyan, kavash, and Parvanpajooh). Their software products and know-how have matured over time in tandem with technological advancements in their field, with critical inputs from field experts, associated companies, organizations and institutions. They, in the recent ten years, have undertaken many landmark projects that include database and archive automation for their clients. Their knowledge base and software products are unsurpassed in the field of digital data management for libraries and document centers, and this includes the full spectrum of related requirements. All their software products are web based, integrated and user friendly. Some of their major clients include the governmental institutions, private companies, national libraries and universities. The needed data was collected using a researcher-made check-list. Different types of descriptive statistical techniques in collaboration with Kolmogorov–, Smirnov test, ShapiroWilk test and Kruskal-Wallis H test were used for analyzing the data. Findings: In terms of content management, Simorgh had the best performance. The statistical population had the best performance in the "category management" section of the content management field and the weakest performance in the "link management" section. In the field of user management, "Azarsa" had the best performance. The statistical community had the weakest performance in this area in the "forum management" section. Test of research hypotheses showed that there is no significant difference between the digital Library software in the use of content management portals and user management. Conclusion: The performance of the statistical population was evaluated for 114 management portlets. The statistical population in the field of content management according to the check-list had an average performance of 80 percent and the average performance of the statistical population in the field of user management was below 63 percent, among which even "Farakavash" and "Parvan" had a performance below 50 percent. Therefore, in general comparison, it was concluded that the statistical community in the field of content management has performed better than user management.

Abstract: 

Aim: The Aim of the study is a comparative analysis of the services and capabilities of commercial software (Simorgh) and open-source software Greenstone. Methods: This study is based on the Documentary research and Evaluation survey, with a practical purpose. Methods of collecting data were using Library resources and planning check list, including 5 criteria and 103 sub-criteria. These materials were used for evaluation of both software. APH method was used to rate those criteria and sub-criteria. The research community was Simorgh and Greenstone. Results: The research findings showed that the Greenstone software has a better status than Simorgh in terms of technical characteristics, input and output standards, metadata, and protocol support. But in the sub-standard, the Simorgh status display is better than Greenstone. Conclusion: It can be concluded that digital Library software Grynastvn more than double the main criteria for Phoenix Digital Library software is an appropriate application And the culmination of this difference in technical standards and the standards of the input and output.

Abstract: 

The goal of this study is to evaluate expert system features of Iranian selected digital Library software in the context of information retrieval. This study was performed using evolutional method using a checklist. In order to gather data, a checklist was prepared with 66 criteria based on the research dimensions (including tools of information retrieval, interface, information database (knowledge), and the strategies used for guidance of users). In preparing the checklist the opinions of LIS experts were used as necessary. The population of this study were 5 selected Iranian Digital Library software namely Pars Azarakhsh, Simorgh, Papyrus, Payam and Parvan. The status of the selected digital Library software was investigated based on research dimensions. According to the studied criteria in research, the results showed that selected digital Library software are lower than normal from the information recovery point of view and information data base, but as for the interface feature, it is higher than normal range. Also in the dimention of guiding users, the results showed that the most emphasis is on common software features instead of specialized ones. The test of research hypothesis also showed that there is a significant difference between the current status of the features of the software of digital libraries in Iran. A checklist was prepared for evaluation of digital Library software in expert systems context. Also the results can be helpful for the software providers to resolve the weaknesses and reinforce the strengths of the software.
